The year of 2018 has proven to hold many changes and growth opportunities for our team. Not only are we adjusting to moving into our new workspace, making changes to our online store and website, and hiring new team members, but we’re pleased to have more opportunities to attend trade shows, “Techspos,” and conferences. One particular event which we are highly anticipating is the 2018 International Manufacturing and Technology Show, or IMTS.

About IMTS 2018 – The Olympics of the Manufacturing Industry

So, what is IMTS all about? We’re glad you asked. IMTS is the peak of manufacturing technology, a summit where leading industry minds come together every other year to create and accelerate new solutions for the manufacturing industry. According to the IMTS website, “It’s the largest display and demonstration of global manufacturing technology in the Western Hemisphere and the largest gathering of the masterminds that make it work.” 2018 will mark the 32nd edition of the show in North America, although its history reaches much further back. In fact, IMTS originally stemmed from the National Machine Tool Builders’ Exposition, the first of which was held over 90 years ago in 1927. This was followed by the Machine Tool Show of 1935, which was held in Cleveland, Ohio. After the second world war, the first post-war Machine Tool Show was held in 1947. The period between 1965 and1970 marked the end of the twin shows, and IMTS began in the mid-1980’s when the McCormick Place facility was expanded to include Donnelly Hall. Since then, the attendance has grown rapidly, and the event has strengthened the leadership in manufacturing while signaling a bright future for the industry.

IMTS is all about thriving in the industry by staying on top of the latest technologies and processes available. Much like the Olympics, IMTS gathers leaders and masterminds from the forefront of the industry to discuss, compare, and teach. This serves as a significant catalyst when it comes to driving the manufacturing industry forward. It attracts buyers from over 100 countries, which means it’s an ideal place for making valuable connections and exploring networking opportunities.

IMTS Machine Shop

Regarding machining and equipment, you won’t find a better exhibition than the one at this event. There will be more than a million square feet of machine tools alone, plus work holding and tooling. According to the IMTS website, “93% of attendees find new products or ideas to use, 86% find specific solutions to manufacturing problems, 89% visit booths of companies not currently calling on them, and 64% make new business contacts.”

Who Attends?

IMTS is attended by more than 115,000 industrial leaders and decision-makers, which likely includes many of our competitors! Leaders find valuable answers to their manufacturing products while learning new tactics to cut costs and produce more work.

Some of the ‘big name’ exhibitors include Big Kaiser, Hurco, Index, and Quality Vision International, Inc. View the full list on the IMTS website’s list of attendees.

Our Presence

Our team will be in a 10’ x 20’ booth 215533 in the Smart Force Student Summit (North Building, Level 1). Our theme for this show is “Factory of the Future” – more about this next month! This is the second year we’ve been present at IMTS, and we are looking forward to reconnecting with other attendees. If you’re planning on attending this event, we invite you to stop by our booth!
